Venerable Thanlangama Devananda Thero, the Abbot of Indiana Buddhist Vihara has been appointed as the Abbot of Lankarama Buddhist Temple, La Puente, California following the demise of the founder Abbot, most venerable Aluthnuwara Sumanatissa Nayaka Thero, the Chief Sanghanayaka of North America.
Venerable Devananda is a Dhamma brother of the late Sumanatissa Nayaka Thero and Venerable Aluthnuwara Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, the Abbot of the renowned Kotte Sri Raja Maha Vihara, Sri Lanka is his preceptor. With the blessings of the current resident monks, it was unanimously decided by the Lankarama Buddhist Temple Management Committee headed by Mr. Sanjiv Gunasekara – the newly appointed Sri Lankan ambassador to Japan, at a recently concluded meeting at the temple to appoint Venerable Devananda as the new Abbot to carry on the legacy of the late Sumanatissa Nayaka Thero.
