US President Barack Obama praises Sri Lanka’s political transformation

The President of United States Barack Obama has praised Sri Lanka’s political transformation as an example for the entire world when he met Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena at a banquet hosted by the American President Tuesday in New York on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly session. President Obama has told his Sri Lankan counterpart that Sri Lanka was at a transformational stage and the U.S. is committed to provide every possible support to Sri Lanka on its forward march. “President Obama said Sri Lanka was an example to others and that US will be with us whenever we need assistance,” President Sirisena has said according to local media reports. The Sri Lankan President also met the Secretary of State John Kerry Wednesday. President Sirisena is scheduled to address the General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York this afternoon. This will be his second time addressing the UN General Assembly.
