In an effort to boost tourism to its country, Sri Lanka will begin offering free visas on arrival to citizens from 39 different countries beginning on the first of May. The island country saw 2.3 million visitors in 2018 and hopes to up the figure this year.

The government of Sri Lanka believes that offering free visas to travelers will encourage more people to visit its country instead of India due to the cost savings. Visas to enter India can cost between $80 and $100. Even prior to its latest move to waive the visa fee, the cost of a visa to Sri Lanka was only $30.

The island country has much to offer visitors. The tropical climate and beautiful beaches are a top attraction to the country. Additionally, Sri Lanka has a vivid historical past and is home to some of the most amazing Buddhist structures in the area. Sri Lanka also has a unique ecosystem and is home to some of the most endangered animals in the world.

The newly announced free visa program will be in effect for six months. However, it is possible that the program will become permanent if the government sees an increase in tourism. Source –  https://news.get.com/sri-lanka-offer-americans-free-visa-arrival/
