Many Sri Lankans and official dignitaries gathered to celebrate the 72nd Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence by conducting an official ceremony at the Church of Scientology Center in North Hollywood, organized by the Sri Lanka America Association of Southern California.
The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the acting Consul General, Buddhdasa Herath & the President of the Sri Lanka America Association, Indika Pilana Manage. The lighting of the traditional oil Lamp took place next, following the religious observances. Independence Day messages of President Gotabaya, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Minister of foreign affairs, Dinesh Gunawardena were read in Sinhala, English and Tamil.
The evening continued with cultural performances from the Sri Lanka Foundation Academy of Performing Arts, Thathjith Academy, Indu Wickramasuriya’s troupe, Tamil Association and other’s from the community which mesmerized the audience.
The evening ended with everyone applauding the performers for showcasing the Sri Lankan Traditional Arts, and was recognized by the Sri Lanka America Association of Southern California.
