A successful open-heart surgery had been performed at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. According to the spokesman, the open-heart surgery had been performed on a 27 -year-old male from Vavuniya by Consultant Cardiologist Dr. S. Sithamparanathan Mugunthan, with the support of the Consultant Anesthetist Dr. S. Premakrishna and the staff.

Jaffna Teaching Hospital Director Dr. T. Sathyamurthi confirmed that the patient is in good condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after the surgery, he said. Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe congratulated the staff over the phone, he added.
