The upcoming Cyril Dharmawardana Foundation (CDF) Annual Gala Fundraiser will be held in Sydney, Australia, on August 10th, 2024, at the 5-star venue, Epping Grand in The Epping Club in NSW. This black-tie gala is one of the key events in the Sydney Sri Lankan event calendar.
Sydney is a place where high-profile Sri Lankan expatriate professionals live, and this annual event makes a major contribution to sustaining Sri Lanka’s first and only non-emergency ambulance service, which is run by the CDF Charity.
The Founder and Chairman of CDF, Binara Dharmawardana, spoke with SLF. He mentioned that the 2023 event raised over $70,000, demonstrating the significant impact this gala has on supporting underprivileged individuals battling cancer in Sri Lanka.
As the first event of the new financial year, scheduled for August 10th, 2024, in Sydney, it sets the stage for a series of upcoming events in London, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Toronto, emphasizing the cause’s global reach and importance. Furthermore, the event is sponsored by Sri Lanka Airlines, Hilton Colombo, Bullion Exchange, Spa Ceylon, Dilmah Tea, and many more.
The CDF charity operates a fleet of ambulances that provide free medical transportation, regardless of distance and time. This service is a lifeline for many Sri Lankans suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses, enabling them to access crucial medical treatments. The relief and hope it brings patients and their families are immeasurable.
The Cyril Dharmawardana Foundation stands out as Sri Lanka’s only non-emergency patient transport service, provided free of charge to the terminally ill in impoverished communities. Binara Dharmawardana and his dedicated CDF team led this unique initiative, which is a testament to their commitment to serving those in need.
In the last ten years, CDF’s services have been provided to over 37,000 patients, saving 25,000 lives in rural and remote areas. This invaluable charity project was created in 2014, primarily focusing on assisting terminally ill patients with transportation between the hospital and their homes during treatment. He also mentioned that CDF might be the only state-of-the-art ambulance service dedicated to cancer in the developing world.
The CDF operates in the Southern, Northern Central, and Northeast regions of Sri Lanka and transports patients to the primary cancer hospital in the Western Province of Colombo. The CDF charity is seeking support to confront rising fuel costs, increased wages, maintenance of the ambulance fleet, and other challenges to sustain their existing services.
The CDF team is making a humble request to all Sydney Sri Lankans to attend this spectacular event on Saturday, August 10th, 2024, in Epping, NSW, to support the cause. Reservations can be made by contacting Kaushi, the main organizer of the event in Sydney.
