“Aiyo! What men?” The famous slang Sri Lankans around the world use when they are annoyed, in despair or regret is now accepted as an English word. The Oxford English dictionary has included the popular slang and the news is trending on social media. The Oxford English Dictionary updates it bank of words four times in a year (March, June, September, and December)
They have defined Aiyo as, “In southern India and Sri Lanka, expressing distress, regret, or grief; ‘Oh no!’, ‘Oh dear!'”
