Most Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha brought from Taxila Museum in Pakistan are being exhibited for general public in Purana Vajirakoth Viharaya, Kalutara District on 04th May 2018. The relics were received by Ven. Gonaduwe Gunananda Thero at the temple.
Thereafter, the Relics will be taken to Galle (5th May at Sumanaramaya, Kumbalwella), Matara (6th & 7th May at Getambaruwa Raja Maha Vihara), Kurunegala (8th May at Diyakalamulla Pirivena, Kuliyapitiya), Anuradhapura (9th & 10th May at Sri Sarananda Maha Pirivena), and Kandy (11th May at Balagollla Buddhist Centre and 12th May at Ambanwela Raja Maha Vihara) for public exposition.
Afterwards the Relics will be brought back to Colombo on 13th May, 2018 for three days exposition at Gangaramaya Viharasthanaya till 16th May.
The Sacred Relics includes two Holy Relics of Lord Buddha. These holy relics are part of collection from Taxila (Takshila) excavation in Pakistan, which is kept at one of the most important archaeological sites in Asia, the Taxila Museum.
The most sacred Buddha relics from in Pakistan were brought to Sri Lanka on 28th April for public exposition in connection with the Vesak Festival.
