Father of the Lankan cinema Dr. Lester James Peiris turned 99 years on April 5, 2018. A special celebration to mark the birthday of this cinema icon was held at the residence of Dr. Lester James Peiris under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Minister of Public Administration, Law and Order Ranjith Maddumabandara joined President Maithripala Sirisena in celebration of the 99th birthday of Dr. Lester James Peiris. The President handed over a monthly allowance of 500,000 rupees to Dr. Lester James Peiris, offered only for greats who had rendered a magnificent service on behalf of the local cinema.
Dr. Lester James Peiris is the launcher of the Sri Lankan classical cinema as well as the first Director to have clinched an international award.
