Art Night Pasadena is an evening of art, music and entertainment where Pasadena’s most prominent arts and cultural institutions swing open their doors. Twenty one cultural institutions opened their doors to art lovers on Friday October 9th for 4 hours. Free shuttles transported them from destination to destination.
The USC Pacific Asia Museum showcased Sri Lanka. The audience was enthralled as Lal Thilakaratne opened the dance with traditional drumming, followed by Chathuri Wickramaarachchi performing the ukase wannama. Then began a showcase of dance and fashion: Peacocks, Madusa, Apsara, Nilame and Udarata Manike all joined into a fusion creation choreographed by our very own Sri Lanka Foundation teachers.
The museum was filled with the beats of traditional Sri Lankan drums and culture. The Sri Lanka Foundation performed each hour at the courtyard of the museum. The museum was decorated with strings of lights and as art lovers enjoyed cocktails, the Sri Lanka Foundation Performing Arts Center performed various dances.
The Audience was at awe of the beautiful fluid movements of the dancers and the never ending spinning of the traditional kandyan dancer.
